Newspaper Notes

Styles of newspaper

News magazines- Almost always is going to have a glossy cover, the typical size is 8/12 by 11. No stories on front.

Tabloid- They are news print and small. A tabloid will have 2 or less stories on the front

Broadsheets- On average a broadsheet will have 3 to 4 stories on the front.

Elements on front cover- There at least 3 stories, there is a couple of pictures, the title of the newspaper, a main story, a website, headline, captions.

Elements-
1. The flag
2. The folio, things on a folio, school name,  a motto, where its from, and the website, volume and issue  number, and a date.
3. Teasers                                                                                              
4. Headlines
5. Sub headline
6. Should have photo(s) and a caption
7. Stories, gotta have who wrote what and what their position is.
8. Jump, a store that starts one place and jumps to another place. Should have page number and headline going.
9. Use lines.

Elements in the opinion section-
1. Masted head consists of-  list of titles, the editorial policy of the newspaper, the organizations associated and the awards awarded.

Front Pages of the World


  1. My favorite newspaper front page is Corpus Christi Caller-Time because it has a main story, and many information on the front.
  2. My favorite headline from that newspaper is "Deadly destruction shakes West". This headline is interesting because it draws my attention, and I have to know what happened.
  3. Their is about five stories on the front page.
  4. Most of the Newspaper have a title, a main story, and many Headlines on their front page.
  5. Many newspaper have difference by not having a main story, a different font, different size headlines, and etc.....

SLO Final Review

Who- Isiah the hound dog.
What- Drooling- there is a treat nearby.
Where- Austin Humane society.

When- Yesterday- April 14, Sunday
Why- He is lost and needs a new home.
How- Call H.S 484-2222

Headline:
Caption: Isiah, the hound dog, Drools for food at the Austin Humane Society on April 14. The hound dog ran away, and was adopted two weeks ago by a phone call to the Humane Society.

Rule of photography: Background, simplicity, Frame, Cropping, Avoiding mergers, and Rule of Thirds.

News Value: Human interest, Timeliness, Proximity, Novelty.

Lighting and Exposures: This photo was exposed properly because nothing is to dark, or to light.
The light is clearly coming from behind the photographer.

Lens- Prime Lens

I would make this photo better by showing more of the dogs body, and show where his position. Also I would space the nose and the frame.


 

Lenses and Photography Vocabulary

  1. I would use a telephoto lens at a Parade when I am far away, which would give me the ability to Zoom In and take pictures from my position.
  2. I would use a Prime lens to take pictures at a party that is inside, which would give me a good picture because of the large aperture and low light.
  3. I would use a wide-angle lens to take a Family picture which would be able to get everyone in the picture because the lens are wide.

 Photography Vocabulary:

   1) Depth of Field- The distance between the nearest and the furthest objects that give an image judged to focus in a camera. This sharpest the focus of the subject to make is appear better.
   2) Light- Is the sight that makes things visible, and is why we are able to see.
   3) Shadow- It is a dark area which is produced by a object that goes between light, and a surface. This makes the photo come out more interesting when it includes shadows of the subject.
   4) Diffusion- It is to scatter light which is used in photography to make the photo more clear with less light.
   5) Exposure- Is the amount of light that reaches a light-material to create a photo with a good light level,
   6) Aperture- Is the unit of measurement that defines the size of the opening in the lens to allow light to enter. This creates a photo that is adjusted if it enough light enter's.
   7) Shutter speed- It determines how long the shutter is open to take the picture. This is used to capture a photo at a good time to see with out being blurry.
   8) ISO- It is the sensitivity in the image. Give a good view of the picture.

Magazine 2

Early magazine covers
  In the development of early magazine covers, they tended to model them like the covers of books. There wasn't any words, or information about what the magazine would contain. The picture of the magazine later was known to be seen, and gives a reader a sense of what it was about. Cover lines were not really rare, many magazines didn't even have a cover.


The Poster Cover
  In a period of time there was one cover that introduced later magazine covers which was a poster cover. These covers looked like they were to be printed and put on walls. The cover is displayed to introduce the magazine. Poster cover has became the dominant cover on most magazines in this century. 


Pictures Married to Type
  This cover draws readers in a more different way then most covers could. Cover lines were then originated in most of these cover. These were then made for persuasion and were made to speak to readers. The import ants of cover lines were to innovate people, and entertain. This cover line was mostly used on these covers and started to introduce more of cover lines. 


In the Forest of Words
  In 1937, these covers were then introduces to the designs of covers. Some contained cover lines that are the same size as the name of the Magazine. These made the magazine cover very powerful for the readers, and took intense photographs for the front picture. They added large numbers of cover lines to the front of the magazine.

Magazine Tips

1. Make sure the photograph appeals to the audience, and its interesting.

2. Don't judge your cover on-screen, no matter how big it is the screen size is wrong.

3. Print out all Alternates as hard copes, and display it with its alternate on the finely polished surfaces of the conference-room table.

4. Find out what the Audience are suggesting.

5. Avoid making a weak cover of the magazine that doesn't get the audience attention.

Photoshop Notes

 
 There are different ways to do every thing in Photoshop. One way to open a photo is to go o file, and find the image you want. Another way is to go to shortcut to open a image, Command + o. Go to your folder, and left click and drag the images to Photoshop, another way is to right click and open with and photo shop.
   Tool bar has a number of tools.  Nestle is tools stacked on each other- to access those tools you have to left click and hold.     

USE CAMMAND KEYS

·      Command c = Copy
·      Command v = Paste
·      Command z = Set Back
·      Command s =Save

Caption#1

Who- President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama.
What- Hugging each other, embracing their love.
When- Monday, Nov. 17th at 11 a.m.
Where- Airport, Washington D.C, Kennedy International Airport on the Tarmac.
Why- They haven't seen each other in three weeks, because President Obama was on the campaigning trail trying to get re-elected as President.
How- Passionate, with emotion.
Background- President Obama Tripped and fell on his way into the airport/terminal and hit his head hard enough that the medical team nearby had to come out and help him.

Sentence #1 
President Barack Obama embraces his wife Michelle at the Kennedy International Airport after returning home from the trip to Ohio where he was campaigning to become the 45th President of the United States.

Vocabulary:  1. Depth of Field-  Is what's in focus.
2. Light- Plays a super important role. Angle of the light, and where its coming from. The intensity of the light plays a role on what the picture looks like.
3. Shadow- Are the absents of light, plays a role where there is light they're going to be shadows.
4. Diffusion- To change the intensity of light.
5. Exposure- How the pictures look to are eyes. Whether the pictures are to light, or to dark.
6. Aperture( f stop)- Is in the lens, how big the opening is inside the lens.
7. Shutter speed- Inside of the camera, and the shutter is the mirror. The shutter speed tells us how fast the mirror opens, and closes.
8. ISO- The sensor inside of the camera, and how sensitive it is to light.

Types of lenses: 
Telephoto- Allows you to zoom closer to your subject.
prime- Doesn't zoom at all, fixed to a certain length.
wide-angle- Wide viewing angle

Reflection of 2012


1. What was the best song of 2012?
 In my opinion the best song of 2012 is "Don't wake me up" by chris brown because it was a good song, and I would always hear it on the radio and by friends. I choose this song because it was one of my favorite of 2012.


2. What was the best movie of 2012?
 The best song of 2012 is "The Avengers", the movie was a great action movie that showed some of the best marvel characters that come together as a group. I choose this this movie because it was a good movie, and many people said it was the best of 2012.


3. What was the most important news story of the year?
 The most important news story of 2012 would be the shooting in Connecticut because it was the most shocking news of 2012. No one expected that a man would go into a school and shoot many children and students. I choose this because many people talked about this, and it was all over the news.


4. Who was the most important person of 2012? 
 The most important person of 2012 is the President, because he is the main one to make hard decision to help the society, and keep our nation maintaining. I choose the president because he is the most important person in the united states.


5. What was the biggest sports person of 2012?
 The biggest sports for 2012 is football, and the biggest person in football is the Redskins Quarterback Robert Griffin the Third. I choose football because it is my favorite sport, and there quarterback is one of my favorite players even thought I don't like the team.

Holiday:
1. I went to six flags over the break, and had a fun time with my family.
2. To keep doing good in school, and get my drivers license by the end of the year.
3. Im looking forward to turn 17 years old.
